Saturday morning I spent 2 hours battling a hangover. Nothing is worse than a pounding headache, dry mouth, no desire to move off of the couch and a scattered recollection of the previous night. Fortunately for me, Ernest Scare Stupid was on “On Demand”, making the hangover a bit more bearable.
During this cinema blockbuster it occurred to me; Jim Varney had an outstanding acting career, all things considered. I say all things considered because the odds were stacked up against Varney. He was pretty hideous, had a wicked smokers voice and he was horrendous at impressions (ok, he had a few good ones). Despite these set backs, he was still able to pump out 9 “Ernest” movies. That’s right, there were 9 of them!!!
Sure, the last few movies look like they were filmed on a Sony Handicam and cost about $250 to produce, but the point is that he stuck with it. That being said, I feel that Jim Varney deserves an official BigPlansBigCrash tribute.
Since I lack the ability to construct a video montage of his best scenes, I am merely holding a poll for his best movie. And sharing this killer “Ewwww” clip.
Jim Varney, we salute you.

Ernest Scared Stupid takes the cake as the best one. Hands Down
False. Ernest Goes to Camp is the king. He bonds with the troubled kids while singing “Happy Together” saves the camp from the greedy miners and passes the ritual of the Blade, the Stone, and the Arrow, which he described as the equivalent of rock, paper, scissors, in our culture.
What about “ernest goes to splash mountain?”
the one where there is an evil troll in a tree and he takes children and puts them in some sort of hole…and they become tiny wax figure dolls or something. scariest shit ever. i THINK this is ernest scared stupid. i mean the title helps me out a bit.
had to go with scared stupid, it was very close tho. ‘goes to jail’ is definitely a contender.
Earnest goes to Africa. boom.
I totally think you should include, “Dr.Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam”. I realize he was in a lot more movies, but this one he had the lead role. It was basically all Jim Varney.
JIM VARNEY WAS THE BEST IN THE WORLD TO ME HE WAS MY TV HERO THAY WILL NEVER BE A NOTHER JIMVARNEY HOLLYWOOD MAY TRY TO REPLACE HIM BUT IT WILL NOT BE THE SAME AS HE WAS.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.JIM VARNEY WILL ALL WAZE LIVE IN MY HEART.
