I used to be totally against Starbucks and everything about their business. Their coffee was overpriced, their seating was uncomfortably close to other people and their stores were full of stuck-up people who think that because they buy a 4 dollar drink, they are better than you - and these are only a few of my qualms with them.
Over the last 2 weeks I have had to hold interviews at a Starbucks down the street from my Pretzel Store. It wouldn’t have been my first choice of location, but I’ll take what I can get. So for the past 2 weeks I have spent around 25 hours sitting in a Starbucks and I must admit, it isn’t so bad.
For one, during the daytime it is usually packed with single females or smoking hot housewives who are passing the time while their sugar daddy’s are out scoring the bones. Lot’s of eye candy and since the the seating is so jam packed, they willingly talk to me. WILLINGLY! And they are SOBER, I would like to add.
Secondly, they play a nice variety of tunes. I hate it when you hear the same 10 songs over and over again. During my stint there, they played a few Beck albums and some Death Cab. Not too shabby.
Third, the overpriced coffee still upsets me. BUT, I also found out that they offer their employees (even part timers who work 20+ hours a week) health benefits. I don’t know of any job that offers benefits to part time employees. I am sure that job perk plays into the inflated cost of their product. I like a company that takes care of their employees.
Finally, in my opinion, the quality of Starbucks coffee trumps that of their competitors (Dunkin’ Donuts). Sure you pay a few bucks more, but I find the “grande mocha” to be much more enjoyable than a large coffee from the ‘Nut. I don’t know if i’ll be able to go back to Dunkin’ Donuts.
To wrap this up, my opinion of Starbucks has done a complete 180. While my budget can’t afford a daily coffee from them, when I do go out for a drink, Starbucks will probably get my business.
