I’m not going to go into the details of the deal as every other website does. But you can read about it on TechCrunch or ShoeMoney. Normally I try to avoid posting about stuff that is all over the place, but I have this nagging issue with this buyout that I am sure none of you care about.
So YouTube gets tons of traffic to their website. I am pretty sure (but have no facts to back this) that much of the traffic comes from myspace (people posting videos in their profile, comments, etc.) Since MySpace is owned by NewsCorp (Fox), I see no reason why they couldn’t ban posting YouTube videos in order to kill traffic to YouTube’s site. In the past they did something similar by upgrading their version of flash, which screwed up embedded videos.
Of course, this would piss off MySpace users, but then NewsCorp could push their own video sharing service on people. Either way, I’m sure with google’s backing, it isn’t going to matter if MySpace were to do this as google can drive insane amounts of traffic to anything it desires.
Oh and the acquisiton amount was 1.6 billion dollars. I’d be happy if someone were to offer me 50 for soundkid.com. Someday I’ll get my break…until then, BigplansBigcrash will continue to pay the bills (so click the ads)
