I have been hooked on HBO’s “The Wire” this season. The show is pretty incredible in that it shows 3 different parts of society in the city of Baltimore. It takes you into the daily lives and dealings of the criminal and drug dealers. You also get a taste of the police life and their role in the inner city. At the top, you have the local government who is trying to juggle 1000 things while cleaning up the problems below them. The beauty of the show isn’t that it has each of these pieces, but it shows they all interact with and affect each other. I am not familiar with too many shows that demonstrate these relationships like The Wire.
Granted, I don’t care much for the “government part” of the show, only the criminals and cops. It’s like a ongoing war between the two groups and that shit intrigues the hell out of me. The show also has a very “Authentic” feel and I think that is one of it’s biggest appeals. There are a lot of crime shows that are too over the top and feel like they don’t represent reality. The Wire nails it.
