SNICK holds a special place in my heart. A place where it’s cool to tell cheesy ghost stories around the campfire or puke up hairballs that are worth gold. Where choreographed dance and poorly translated french men reign supreme. The memories of SNICK are forever etched in my mind as I am sure they are for most cool ass people my age.
I decided to throw together a top 10 list of my favorite SNICK shows. Ironically, there were only about 11 shows in total, so the top of the list is just filler. “Top 6 SNICK shows” didn’t do it for me as a title, woof.
The List:
10. Space Cases
This show wasn’t around very long. Probably because it wasn’t that great. Think Star Trek for kids…
9. The Mystery files of Shelby Woo
Another show that didn’t really catch my attention. Asian girl solved crimes with the help of her Ninja father. Think “3 ninjas” minus Rocky, Tum-Tum, and Colt - and the killer combat.
8. The Journey of Allen Strange
A black alien? I thought they don’t like to fly? Or is it swim? I can never remember. (kidding)- 7. Clarissa Explains It All
Did Sam ever hook up with Clarissa? She made him climb that ladder so many times, he better have got SOMETHING
6. Roundhouse
Killer dance sequences, Over the top comedy acts, Live entertainment. Sounds like a recipe for some golden entertainment!…or cancellation. Either way, I enjoyed this show.Check out Roundhouse
DVDs on Amazon.com
5. The Secret World of Alex Mack
I am pretty sure most guys my age will admit that they would do ANYTHING to get a piece of Alex Mack. She was the Winnie Cooper of my time. I know that is a bold statement, but I stand by it 100%. I wonder what she is doing now?
4. Ren and Stimpy
This is the only show I look back on and think “How the hell did I ever watch this as a kid?”. It is so raunchy and vulgar that I am amazed it they aired some of the episodes on TV. I still have the audio CD that I rock out to from time to time. DON’T WHIZ ON THE ELECTRIC FENCE!Check out some Ren & Stimpy - The Complete First and Second Seasons
on Amazon.com
3. All That
All the big Nickelodeon actors got their start here. Amanda Bynes, Keenan, Kel, and the rest. I just wish Lori Beth Demberg wasn’t on the show. I hated that “Quiet this is a Library” skit. It was all about Repair-Man and Pierre S. Cargo (hauhh hauhh)
2. Keenan and Kel
“Who loves orange soda?…Kel loves orange soda…IS IT TRUE???…(Mhmm hmmm) I do I do I do-ooo” - or - “IIIII dropped the screwwwww in the tunaaaaa” Anyone who can appreciate either of those two quotes may be the coolest person in the world along with me, obviously. Great Show.
1. Are You Afraid Of The Dark?
Where do I start with this classic? Let’s just say I own every episode on DVD and I still watch them (usually intoxicated). I still think Zeebo the clown is the scariest clown I have ever seen, worse than Pennywise. Someday I am going to get a bunch of people together, get locked inside the Oxford Valley Mall, and reinact the pinball arcade episode…Did I mention being the coolest person in the world?
Check it out! You can buy Are You Afraid of the Dark? - The Complete First Season Here
I look back at Nickelodeon now - not just SNICK - and I can’t believe what it was turned into, Garbage. Today’s kids are missing out on some incredible childhood TV. The only thing that station has going for them is Sponge Bob. Great Show. Hopefully the Nick GAS station starts to air some episodes from these older shows. That would be righteous.
Which show was your favorite? Least favorite? Leave ‘em in the comments. Peace.

drummin on a street light……(keep it goin)
Banging on a trash cannnn?
strummin on a street light….
are you afraid of the dark was the best show ever. alex mack was cool. not such a big fan of keenan and kel or roundhouse. i thought everyone on that show was an overacter, not to mention corny, despite their hip 90s attire and dance moves. i loved the lunchbox specials on sunday though…anyone remember them??
yo man… i’ve got some bad news for you
as you know, larisa oleynick AKA alex mack went on to be smokin’ hot in “10 things i hate about you”
she then started attending sarah lawrence college (my friend went there and saw her all the time) and promptly gained about 30 pounds.
she was last seen as a guest star in “malcolm in the middle” to my horror as one of reese’s army buddies that reese has a crush on who turns out to be a lesbian
and for the first 20 minutes of the show i honestly didn’t recognize her. then it hit me who it was - and the credits proved it also - and then i weeped for a good four days straight… she really is a tank now.
im so sorry you had to find out this way
My world is crumbled. I will drink extra heavy tonight to try to forget about this tragedy.
When I heard the song from Doug I was reminded of the song from the intro on Pete and Pete sung by a band named Polaris… I also remember an episode where the young Pete was trying to keep one of their songs in his head. Well with a tiny bit of “research” I was able to find their myspace page with their songs on it!!! Anyone else wanna hear it, heres the link!

BTW…anyone else like Pete’s tattoo “Petunia” LoL!!
alex mack, love of my adolescent years. Are you afraid of the dark? = classic. Thanks for the post
Not that I didn’t envy the kids on Are You Afraid of the Dark, but whose bright idea was it to give a bunch of kids a bag of explosive dust? I mean, they had to know at least one of them would grow up to be an arsonist…
I would have to say my favorite older Nick show of all time would definitely have to be The Adventures of Pete and Pete… I have every single episode (was a blast trying to find them…) and I just love it to death. So nostalgic and there is no show like it.
where is rocco modern life and and why is Are you afrade of the dark #1 althow i do like kenen and kel.
holy shitballs. You guys are forgetting some classics. What about Hey Dude!, Salute Your Shorts, Pete N Pete, and Wild N Crazy Kidz?!
And don’t get me started on Double Dare.
One of the best shows Nickelodeon had running was The Adventures of Pete and Pete. They’re finally available on DVD and are well worth the price.
Guy’s this was about SNICK shows, as great as Pete N Pete and Salute your Shorts are were they were never in the SNICK line up.
Sometimes you come across an article which completely takes you back in time. This was one such article.
I remember Are You Afraid of The Dark. Such a great show.
In Lisa’s comment above, she brought back memories of ‘Banging on a Trash Can” from Doug — greatness.
Very good article. Thanks for the road trip down memory lane.
YOU FORGOT PETE AND PETE. JEEZ.
How about Salute Your Shorts? I know it wasn’t a Snick show, but still! It kicked major arse.
LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE ANYONE!!!???
THE BEST SHOW EVER, my god, when I was 6 I used to watch that on Nick and nobody I know remembers it, thankyou
Are You Afraid of the Dark? is great for this reason: Rachel Blanchard.
The Adventures of Pete and Pete is hands down the best show ever aired on Nickelodeon.
No the Best part of Are You Afraid Of The Dark is Defiantly Joanne Garcia.. she places the blonde daughter on the show Rebba. God she was so hot as sam but shes super hot now.
I have to agree with you with Kenan & Kel. A complete classic.
Yesh, the pinball arcade episdoe. I remember that one soooo well. I totally forgot about the Snick days. Thank you for reminding me. I have to agree with your list. those shows rocked, well except the last two, they weren’t that great. I miss those shows, tear. And that clown from Are You Afraid of the Dark? Man that gave me the creeps. I wish I can get them on DVD. But I still have the interactive PC game that I haven’t beat yet. And All That as well I wonder if their are DVDs….I need to look. Man good times.
NO LOVE FOR SALUTE MY SHORTS…..Donkeylips?
Salute Your Shorts wasn’t SNICK. It was just regular NICK. But trust me, there is lot’s of love over here for Donkey Lips.
wtf i cant remember if it’s snick or not, but no one has even mentioned kablam jeez.
Um, Pete and Pete was my effing JAM! and I loved Doug (One little voice is calling me, calling me) and All That was awesome before it turned to crap. Clarissa was cool. I still have the board game and had the cassette haha. The one show I absolutely looooooved was Roundhouse. That show was my favorite because it was funny, people had talent on that show and it was pretty poignant.
Sorry, but Are You Afraid of the Dark bored me sometimes. It would scare the pants off my now-tough sister, but back then, she would run out of the room when the flame popped on the screen. haha
Ooooh. You’ve made my eyes well up. I miss those days (and quality shows) sooo much. Good times, good times…you forgot to list Pete and Pete though!
Doug should be on there, but you definitely forgot Pete & Pete!
Seriously, as many great shows as Nick had at the time, only like 4 of them were on Snick. My list:
1. All That
2. Kenan and Kel
3. Rugrats
4. Ren and Stimpy
5. Are You Afraid of the Dark?
6. Clarissa Explains It All
Uh yeah, that’s about it, the rest of them I didn’t really watch. Oh yeah, and Nickelodeon does suck now, the only shows that would have made it in the 90s are Spongebob and Unfabulous, the rest would have been Disney Channel fodder.
all those shows r great besides one that i dont even remember “roadhouse” but other that that everything was good. the game shows and everything. but i dont agree with pete #31 disney also had some great shows. such as “so wierd” “the jersey” “the famous jett jackson” and thats only a few of them. the fact is that all tv was better back then on every station it was better. but they dont make tv like they used to.
I love it. TV was so much better in the 90s. I loved snick and looked forward to it every weekend. I used to tape Alex Mack and I can actually still recall watching the very first episode. Wow how times have changed. Now we have a talking sponge on TV who works at a resteraunt called Krusty Krab!!!
Furreal..no love for cousin skeeter ot Taina. Sure they tanked, but still one(or two) season classics
I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuved Cousin Skeeter. One of snicks best shows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here’s my opinion of the the best
old school NICK shows ever.(1990-2000)
10.The Mystery files of Shelby Woo
9. The Secret World of Alex Mack
8. Are you Afraid of the Dark
7. Doug
6. Rocko’s Modern Life
5. Salute Your Shorts (SYS)
4.Cousin Skeeter ‘another pointless cheesy easy shot comedy
3. Pete and Pete
2. All That
1.Kenan and Kell
Does anyone know where to buy Are You Afraid of the Dark on DVD? Or any other older Nick shows?
I know the first season is on DVD on ebay…but you can download ALL of them on bit torrent (I think I saw them on torrentspy.com)…GOOOOD LUCK!
Ok everything about the 90’s was better television music movies everything…ok the style was sort of out there in the early 90’s but the grunge look was the best thanks to Nirvana,Mudhoney,Soundgarden,Smashing Pumpkins,Melvins,Candlebox,Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains,Bush, and those who came before them…This is about Snick shows though…. I have see every episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark I actually have every episode on dvd(s). How can you not remember roundhouse wow….Nick, Salute Your Shorts…donkey lips is awesome…Pete and Pete always makes me want to ask the question WHY lol the episode was awesome I miss the 90s….TEAR
Okay this topic really brings back great memories and has really brought back some great times. Some classic Afraid of the dark episodes are of course the pinball wizard and Zeebo the clown along with jake and the leprachaun and the doll maker that puts the girl in the doll house. Hmmm anyone remember animorphs? It was on later than most mentioned here and its was an okay, better than the junk on there today,One of the main characters from it is the guy who plays Ice Man in X-Men.. Hmmm 1st thing that pops out in my mind about Salute Your Shorts is Zeek the plumber…come on you gotta remember that! Also when the black girl..cant remember her name breaks her tennis racket and comes to butnick(who is dressed like a mafia boss) for a new one. Omg I had totally forgotten about Hey Dude! Thanks so much for bringing that one back! Rocko o Rocko whats best about you? Is it meet the fat-heads? Really really big man? Or just Kind-of-a lot-of-comics? Whatever it is you have a place in the hearts of all of us here. There’s another show I always loved when I was very young. Never could think of the name…been trying to for years. It’s about these people that get lost in another world that is inhabited by dinosaurs that are a mix of dino/human. Would really like if anyone knew the name of that.
I believe the show you are looking for is “Land of the Lost” It was a remake of campy 1970s show of the same name.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0101130/
WOOOOOOOOOOOO LORRDDDDDDDDD those were the days alex mack mannnnnn i loved it all. But lets talk about snick remember the show my brother and me come on tell me u guys remember “gooooo punchhhhh gooooo punnchhh” and “don’t hold ya breath” lmao yea all that was great and so was kenana and kell n yea must i add i kind of liked cousin skeeter even though that skeeter puppet scared me at times. Do you guys remember the short lived show Taina? “i know you cant wait to see my name in lights” it only had like 2 or 3 seasons ughhh DOUG NEEDS 2 BE ON THAT LIST!!! I MEAN COME ON CLASSIC SONGS KILLER TOOO FUUUUUU ! AND BAGNING ON A TRASH CANNNNNNN LMAO AND do you guys remember that show AHHHH real monsters!!!….but in speaking of nickelodeon lets hit up the best of nick jr right quick
1. EUREKAS CASTLE
2. ALLEGRA’S WINDOW
3. GULLA GULLA ISLAND
4. THE BUSY WORLD OF RICHARD SCARY
and remember “FACE” lmao
the greatest!!!!
o yea the old rugrats was fun when the children actually had imagination! you know the old less quality colored ones where they actually had sum pretty good imaginative adventures and i alwaysz wanted a reptar bar
Are You Afraid of the Dark was frickin awesome. Keenan and Kel was also great. Rocko’s Modern Life was great. And All That was really good. Those 4 were by far the best shows on at the time, and might still be some of the best. NICK today sucks.
Little Pete was on pretty much every nick/snick show that was not animated at least once. he is the journeyman of our era
1 Cousin Skeeter
2 Kenan & Kel
3 Alen Strange
4 Peet N Peet
5 Noah know best
great list
Oh my god!!! This really does bring back good old memorize.
I use to be obsessed with Alex Mack when I was a kid. Lol.
It still is very good.
Who could forget Sister, Sister? Sabrina the teenage Witch? What about Saved by the Bell??? Brilliant!! : D
I also think that Nick it self was very good, I personally think the presenters were very good, the set and games itself. The shows were hell a lot better then these days, it’s not the same anymore! Bring back the old Nick!!
The only shows I like now are Spongebob, Drake & Josh and My Parents are Aliens.
There are also some other shows that I remember that were on back then like Inspector Gadget, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, CatDog, the dog one with his other dog buddies (the yellow dog? Who wore sunglasses? I forget) Rockos Modern Life, Tales of the Crept Keeper, Dracula (Whatever it’s called), PeeWees PlayHouse (loved it when I was a kid)
Ahhh!!!!! the 90’s the best 10 years of my life. It was a time when kids could sit down and enjoy at least 10 good shows on all networks instead of just Spongebob (which is the best cartoon since Kablam or Angrey Beavers) Now that I’m 18 I look back at it and laugh, today’s cartoons don’t even come close to yesterdays (1990’s).
My top ten for nick would be:
10:Kablam (Henry & June)
9:Clarissa Explains It All (the ladder)
8:Ren & Stimpy (a little nasty but funny)
7:Rocko’s Modern Life (One word HEF)
6:Doug (theme song)
5:Ahhh! Real Monsters (Ickis)
4:Angrey Beavers (Norbert and Daggett)
3:Are You Afraid of the Dark? (Scared the HELL out of me!)
2:My Brother and Me (Goo!) The Adventures of Pete and Pete (whatever happend to them.
1:Kennen and Kel, and All-That(overacting yes but at that time it was the funniest to me)
And I leave u with this.
We run, we jump, we swim and play
We row and go on trips
But the thing that lasts forever
Are our dear friendships
Camp Anawanna, we hold you in our hearts
and when we think about you
it makes me want to fart!
It’s I hope we never part
Now get it right or pay the price
Now we will share a lifetime of the fondest memories
by the Lake of Anawanna, set in the old pine trees
Camp Anawanna we hold you in our hearts
but when we think about you, this thing it came apart!
Think Ana-wanna-wanna!
Speak Ana-wanna-wanna!
Live Ana-wanna-wanna! Ugh!!!
snick= saturdaynight nick if i remeber correctly.. and yes id have to agree that todays kids are missing out onm some great old school programming that we grew up with which is why its my goal to find and download or purchase the shows i liked and show them to my kids.. hopefully this will lead them to do the same and theses old shows will never die.. but yhea are you afraid of the dark was my favorite show at that time..
Hi everybody,

would anybody possibly remember a show they used to show on nick/snick in the early 90’s, desperately trying to remember. It’s about a boy around 12 or 13 and he’s in a perpetual coma after he falls out of his treehouse. That part would always be in the intro with a voice over from the guy, my life was normal until I fell into a coma…While he’s in a coma he’s living in this fantasy land …it’s really weird and at times they’d show him in the hospital…I was sure it used to star Sean O’ Neal, but it might have been a guy that looked similar to him. Hopefully someone might be able to remember this, thanks
I miss these shows so much! Most that come on now really don’t compare at all. I used to love Rocko’s modern life, Doug, Kablam!, Angry Beavers, Rugrats, and waaay back The Busy World of Richard Scary. What’s wrong with reruns? They should seriously play some of those old shows again.
MAN bring the good ol days back please! all the shows these days are wack!!
thank you! love clarissa explains it all and are you afraid of the dark and keenen and kel and ren and stimpy!!!
GEEE WIZZ with you show people!
WHAT ABOUT KABLAAM!?!
Hey everybody, please check out my SNICK tribute page/club on Yahoo!:
http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/SNICK_Tribute_Page/
From 1992-mid 2004, Nickelodeon presented a Saturday night instituion for America’s youth. SNICK invited us to sit on the comfy big orange couch (the official mascot of SNICK) from 8:00-10:00. It was must see TV for kids who were getting away from school for the weekend. SNICK featured such classic programs as “Clarissa Explains it All”, “Roundhouse”, “The Secret World of Alex Mack”, “Kenan and Kel”, “Ren and Stimpy”, “The Adventures of Pete and Pete”, the original “All That”, “Space Cases”, and “Are You Afraid of the Dark”, just to name a few. The “golden age” of SNICK was from 1992-1999 (when the big orange couch, the heart and soul of the block was retired). Although the “SNICK” name is no longer active (instead, we have the rather sterile, bland “TEENick”), this page intends on keeping its spirit and legacy alive.
Vital information by lori-beth denberg was hilarious…and if anyone watches “futurama”, i think the voice of Fry is the same guy who does Rojer from Doug
Not just the shows that were on snick… Many other shows such as “salute your shorts” or “Hey Dude”.
Even some of the game shows which is now on GAS…. NICK!!! bring back the old school!
Do it!
Or recreate the awesomeness of TV!
I don’t agree with the list I think that Kenan and Kel should of been number 1 then All that then Are You Afraid of the dark
Did you all forget… My Brother and Me? Classic Show
well my eyes are all teary now…
thanx eveyone for the awesome memory rush
so many wonderful times were had back then.
God bless you all….
PS: keep banging those trashcans
I miss 80’s/90’s Nick and Disney so freaking bad!! hmmmm SO depressed now wish I had my child life back!! why can’t they just put them back on a t.v. they could just create a channel god
yes I would have to agree with every one of you that the 90’s show of nickelodeon was the best. especially are you afraid of the dark and alex mack are my top 2 favorite. but I can’t say that the show this day is not good, i think iCarly is pretty good now and the kid who watching them today will feel like us in the 90’s when they grow older. I mean each generation have their own shows. your parents probably think the same when we watch our favorite show then, i know my mom did. she keep talking about how great the music during her time was.
